چکیده
African rosewood (Pterocarpus erinaceus) is an endemic, highly exploited and endangered tree species in arid semi-arid zones of West Africa. Identifying optimum conditions for seed propagation storage critical its conservation. This study assessed the effects four pretreatments on germination seedling vigour. Varying temperature, duration packaging deterioration were also evaluated 12-months. Moisture sorption isotherms at 20, 25 30°C characterized by equilibrating samples series lithium chloride (LiCl) solutions, generating relative humidity (RH) range 3-95%. Data fitted to mathematical models; Chung Pfost, Halsey, Henderson Oswin determine most suitable describing water activity (aw), equilibrium moisture content (EMC) temperature relationship. Results indicate that whole fruit sowing reduced capacity more than 50% compared with extracted seeds 5% probability level. Seeds stored -10°C recorded lowest rate ambient storage, regardless packaging. showed a sigmoid (S-shaped) profile characteristic orthodox seeds, best described equation. Our findings highlight need adopting improved extraction technology protocols P. erinaceus Key words: germination, storability, rosewood, isotherms.

Moisture Sorption Isotherms and Isosteric Heat Determination in Chilean Papaya
The moisture sorption isotherms of Chilean papaya were determined at 5, 20, and 45 oC, over a relative humidity range of 10-95%. The GAB, BET, Oswin, Halsey, Henderson, Smith, Caurie and Iglesias-Chirife models were applied to the sorption experimental data. The goodness of fit of the mathematical models was statistically evaluated by means of the determination coefficient, mean relative percen...
متن کاملExperimental Determination of Moisture Sorption Isotherms of Okro Fruit
The sorption isotherm ( desorption and adsorption ) of okro fruit was determined at three temperatures of 300C,400C and 500C within the range of 1090% Relative humidity (RH). Thymol solution was placed inside the desiccators to prevent microbial growth, particularly at the relative humidity above 65%. Gravimetric method was used for the sorption isotherm where the reading and recording was take...
متن کاملMutant alleles at the rugosus loci in pea affect seed moisture sorption isotherms and the relations between seed longevity and moisture content.
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) mutant near-isogenic lines (RRrbrb, rrRbRb, rrrbrb) with lower starch but higher lipid contents, brought about by lesions in the starch biosynthetic pathway, had seed moisture sorption isotherms displaced below that of the wild type (RRRbRb). The negative logarithmic relationship between seed longevity and seed storage moisture content (%, f.wt basis), determined in herme...
متن کاملestimation of moisture sorption isotherms for thompson seedless raisins
moisture sorption isotherms are useful in food dehydration, storage and packaging. because of the complex food composition, experimental measurements are necessary for prediction of the isotherms. moisture sorption isotherms of thompson seedless raisins were determined at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80?c, using the standard static gravimetric method developed by the european cooperation project cost...
متن کاملMoisture Desorption Isotherms and Isosteric Heat of Sorption Characteristics of Malting Barley (hordeum Distichum L.)
The equilibrium moisture content of malting barley grains (cv. Scarlett) was determined by gravimetric-static method in the range 20-50°C using saturated salt solutions (LiCl, MgCl2.6H2O, K2CO3, NaBr, NaNO2, KI, NaNO3, NaCl, (NH4)2SO4) to provide water activities for each temperature between 0.11 and 0.813. Desorption isotherms were obtained at 20, 30, 40, and 50°C. All the sorption curves w...
